COACH SPOTLIGHT: Helena Dias, Leading With Purpose and Passion
For Helena Dias, Rush Union Georgia, coaching isn’t just about wins and losses, it’s about connection, growth, and giving back to the game that shaped her life. With a soccer lineage that runs deep, her father is a professional coach, Helena was raised with a ball at her feet and a love for the game in her heart. “Soccer has always been more than just a sport to me, it’s been a way of life,” she shared. “It’s taught me discipline, resilience, and connection, and coaching allows me to give back to the game that gave me so much.” Helena’s coaching journey is driven by a clear purpose: to create a meaningful experience for every player she works with. Season after season, what keeps her motivated is simple, watching players grow. “There’s always a next step, always something to build, and always someone to believe in,” she said. “Seeing their breakthroughs and being part of their journey is what makes every season meaningful.” Her coaching style is centered around the individual. No two players are the same, and Helena embraces that challenge by meeting each athlete where they are in their development. She strives to cultivate an environment where players feel safe to take risks, learn through mistakes, and find confidence in their game. “Beyond development, I want my players to feel something deeper—to play with creativity, express themselves, and grow not just as players, but as people.” One of her proudest moments? Seeing a player bring a training concept to life in a game. “It tells me they’re growing and trusting themselves. Those little moments show that the work matters.” Being part of the Rush community has only elevated Helena’s coaching journey. Surrounded by like-minded coaches from across the world, she’s found inspiration in collaboration and lifelong learning. “Rush has introduced me to incredible coaches who are just as passionate about development as they are about the game itself,” she said. “It’s an environment that values growth—not just for players, but for coaches too.” And for those just getting started in their coaching careers, Helena offers this advice: “Stay a learner, always. Be open. Stay curious. The Xs and Os matter, but relationships drive development. If you lead with care, humility, and purpose, the impact you make will last far beyond the field.” About Rush Soccer Formed in 1997, Rush Soccer is the largest youth soccer organization in the world with more than 55,000 players in 50 countries.
